Incredible Mexican Martini Recipes!

Born in the restaurants and bars of Austin, Texas the Mexican martini’s fame is spreading like wildfire! When you see the ingredients, you’ll understand why this drink is inherently Mexican and oh so good! Who invented the Mexican martini is in hot debate but you’ll hear all kinds of answers like Sopapilla’s, Cedar Door Bar and Grill, Baby Acapulco’s, Chuy’s, Carlos ‘n Charlie’s, Flores Mexican Restaurant, or 219 West but the hands-down winner for best Mexican martini recipe is Trudy’s Tex-Mex.

Mexican Martini Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Tequila of your choice. We think a Silver looks the part for a martini!
  • 1 1/2 oz. Cointreau Orange Liqueur, Grand Marnier Triple Sec
  • 1 1/2 oz. Lime Juice
  • 1 oz. Orange Juice
  • Splash of Sprite or 7-Up
  • No cheap drink mixes!
  • 1 splash olive juice to make it authentic and to dirty it up
  • Skewered Jalapeno-stuffed martini olives!
  • Salted Martini glass rim

Some like to refer to this drink recipe as a Margaritini or Austin Margarita, but please note that the real secret of a Mexican martini is to squeeze fresh juice and refuse to use a mix! Which tequila to use is a personal preference. I like a good Reposado like Sauza Hornitos, Cazadores, Patron, or Herradura. My friend recently introduced me to Corzo Silver, but at about $130 per bottle, it’s a real luxury. Keep inĀ  mind that many bars limit patrons to only two of these bad boys, so the quality of tequila will likely only be an issue on the first one. After that, who really cares?
